90 % of company waste is recycled
“Telenor Serbia’s Environmental Management System has helped us reduce our negative influence on the environment. In 2011, we recycled almost 90 % of the waste generated onsite, saved over 10,000 litres of fuel for company cars and reduced our overall energy consumption. Leading by example, we want to draw the attention to this crucial issue which, if ignored, could have serious repercussions on people’s lives and health,” said Maja Neable, CHRO, Telenor Serbia.
Environmental Management system introduced in 2010
Telenor Serbia introduced the ISO 14001:2004 standard or the “Environmental Management System” in 2010. This system applies to the entire company, all its activities, products and services, as well as all facilities which directly or indirectly influence the environment. Its aim is to reduce the effect of business activities on the environment.
“With its systemic approach in the environmental protection sector, Telenor Serbia ranks prominently as a socially responsible company, committed to constant improvement and prevention of environmental pollution, even though it is not legally bound to apply ISO standard 14001:2004,” said Marinko Ukropina, General Manager of SGS Belgrade d.o.o..
Environmental protection is part of the daily business activities
“The Certificate for the Environmental Management System represents a major success. It is the result of the hard work of the team who introduced the System and participated in the certification process. This Certificate is official confirmation that environmental protection has become a part of Telenor’s daily business activities, and it is also encouragement to continue reducing adverse effects and improving our relation towards the surroundings we live in,” said Ivana Vranjican, Environmental Manager in Telenor Serbia.
Beyond recycling…
Since Telenor first launched its business operations in Serbia in 2006, the company has introduced numerous activities aimed at protecting the environment. During the mobile phone recycling campaign, more than 75,000 phones were collected and recycled, which is approximately eight tons of materials. The first ecological base station using solar and wind energy was constructed and the Eco Park near Nebojša Tower in Belgrade opened. Telenor Serbia has also supported other global activities such as “Earth Hour”, “Earth Day” and “World Environment Day”.
