Vujica Lazovic, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information society and telecommunications, and Kaaren Hilsen, CEO of Telenor Montenegro, put their signatures on an agreement for a long-term partnership to address online safety of children.

In 2009, Telenor was the first operator in Montenegro to implement a filter to block child pornography sites on its mobile network. Telenor Montenegro now takes another step towards safe Internet use by initiating a project that aims to educate Montenegrin children, their parents and teachers to build a healthy set of norms for how to behave in the digital landscape and reduce cyber-bullying.

Cooperation that matters

In February this year, Vujica Lazovic, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information society and telecommunications, and Kaaren Hilsen, CEO of Telenor Montenegro, put their signatures on an agreement for a long-term partnership to address online safety of children.

”Our cooperation with the Ministry and other stakeholders will secure not only the right competence and technology, but also new ways of education. We strongly believe this kind of cooperation between private companies, educational institutions and the Government is what is needed to improve education and skills of young generation.”, said Kaaren Hilsen, CEO of Telenor Montenegro.

Focus on future generations

Vujica Lazovic expressed satisfaction with signing a Memorandum of Understanding and common work on the project with Telenor. ”We are very glad that Telenor has recognized the importance of this topic, and we will work on this project together. I am sure that in the coming period we will be able to show all the benefits Internet brings to general, but especially to young population.”

The goal of this project is to provide education and tools for Montenegrin children, their parents and teachers to have a family friendly Internet experience while at the same time creating a safe computing environment.

Ambassadors of Safe Internet

The first phase of this long term initiative will focus on five elementary schools. Telenor Montenegro, together with experts in this field, will educate 20 young people to be Ambassadors of Safe Internet at their schools and in their communities.

The project consists of three segments: education, competition and raising awareness. It encourages users, both young and old, to join together in creating positive online experiences, to share both knowledge and wisdom, and to support each other when things might be risky or go wrong.

The youth will also be engaged to design the content for the second and more extensive phase. This is one of the key drivers that will enable Montenegrins to discover the digital world together… safely.
