Telenor Serbia launched its Internet Parks project in June 2008, with the opening of the Student Park in Belgrade. The project aims at promoting computer literacy and making the Internet accessible to a larger part of the population.Â

“For years now, the Internet availability and literacy have been among the parameters defining a developed society. We want to believe that with projects like this one Telenor Serbia contributes to Serbia’s fast joining of the family of developed countries,” says CEO of Telenor Serbia, Kjell Morten Johnsen.

Telenor in charge of the parks maintenance

Since the launch of the project Telenor Serbia has opened six Internet parks in Belgrade and six parks in other cities in Serbia, providing free access to Internet. The company has provided the necessary equipment and has been in charge of its maintenance as well as prepared each individual design and posted instructions.

Working and learning outside

In addition to Student Park, the general public also has free access to Internet in the park in the Student City – the largest student quarter in the Balkans, with as many as 4,500 student residents.

“It is a wonderful sight to see all the students, who sit here after completing their exams and enjoy quality contents, which we have provided in collaboration with Telenor. They really enjoy the opportunity of working and learning outside,” said Student City Assistant Director Dragana Vujačić.

The positive impact of the Internet

Increased adoption of Internet can accelerate business productivity, thereby generating income, jobs and government revenues in emerging economies. This is the demonstrated in a study from October 2009 conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Telenor Group.
