This year at least 50 Thai children will receive free surgery to fix their cleft lips or cleft palates, thanks to Kids Action for Kids and dtac’s “Do Good Deeds Every Day” project. Through an innovative SMS campaign to raise awareness, dtac customers were able to easily send a text message to show their support for the surgical correction of this birth defect.

The dtac campaign began in mid-June this year and has so far generated an overwhelming 1.9 million SMS responses. For each SMS, dtac donates one baht to the Operation Smile Foundation to finance the surgeries. This is the third time that dtac has conducted a campaign benefiting children with cleft palates and lips. Previous campaigns resulted in free surgeries for 114 children in Thailand.

This year “Kids Action for Kids”, a Norwegian youth group, has joined in dtac’s efforts by conducting fundraisers in Norway. Their efforts resulted in an additional 375,000 baht towards the cause.

“Thanks to the support from Kids Action for Kids, we are able to help more kids who suffer from this cleft lips and cleft palates. The combined amount of the fund through this year’s campaign can provide free surgeries to at least 50 Thai kids and give them a new life,” said Mr. Perapong Klinla-or, Head of dtac’s Corporate Responsibility division.

The dtac “Do Good Deeds Every Day” campaign was created to encourage people to help others, whether by raising funds, raising awareness, sending SMSes, giving money or contributing time and effort.
