Telenor in Nobel Peace Centre partnership

CEO of Telenor, Jon Fredrik Baksaas (left) and Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Geir Lundestad, signed the partnership agreement.
Telenor has entered into a partnership agreement with the Nobel Peace Centre. The idea behind the establishment of the Centre, located in the old train station at Vestbanen in Oslo, is communication in the widest sense of the word. During a four-year period, Telenor will contribute a total of NOK 14 million to the Nobel Peace Centre.
Telenor's contribution will partly consist of supplies of services and partly of direct funding.
"We are very pleased to have an international communications partner such as Telenor in our team," said Geir Lundestad, Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute and Chairman of the Nobel Peace Centre. Lundestad and Baksaas signed the agreement at the Norwegian Nobel Institute on Thursday.
Supporting peace efforts
"Telenor has a number of international commitments in troubled regions
of the world, and we want to give our support to an important peace effort,"
said CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas before signing the agreement.
- Peace and communication, additional to a global focus, are the central aspects of this partnership, and this is very much in line with Telenor's commitment to strive for a positive social development," said Baksaas. "The agreement will also be a considerable source of inspiration for our employees, as well as an important contribution to our effort to strengthen Telenor's profile both in Norway and abroad."
Important support
"We see Telenor's support of, and commitment to, the Nobel Peace Centre
as an important contribution to our work for world peace," said Director
Geir Lundestad. "The fact that such an important international telecommunications
company gives its backing to our vision through its commitment to a positive
social development makes Telenor an ideal partner for the Nobel Peace Centre."
Opening next year
The Nobel Peace Centre is due to open in June 2005, with both Norway's and Sweden's royal
couples present. The Centre's vision is to make a contribution to peace through reflection,
debate and involvement.
The Peace Centre also receives support from other major companies.
