Categorical Landscape (Hill)Slaattelid works with many forms of expression, often using landscapes and references to paintings or photography of the past. In the painting Categorical Landscape we sense a forest interior as a discrete silhouette on the surface. Among the pictures for which she received the Carnegie Art Award in 2000 was a series of photographs of children. They may appear weak and vulnerable, protected by a layer of face cream, but they show strength through their strong and direct gazes.
