    Furunes’ perforated paintings are sometimes based on anonymous portraits or taken from her own photographs. She often finds her subjects in historical and controversial archives. Furunes breathes new life into old portraits, their new form and reworking helping to give the subjects a new dignity in a new context.

    At a distance, this portrait looks like a photograph. On close inspection, the subject disappears, and an optical illusion is created. This occurs because the coloured canvas is perforated with small holes, revealing white dots from the wall behind.
