Daniel Buren

Daniel Buren was born in 1938 in France. He lives and works in France. Buren attended the Ecole Superiure de Metiers d'Art in Paris in 1960. At the beginning of his artistic career, he was associated with the conceptual artists of the time. Protesting against traditional art, Buren reduces his paintings to a series of uniform, infinite vertical bands. He is best known for his consistent use of contrasting colours and black and white stripes of 8.7 cm breadth.
