Hiroshi Sugimoto

Hiroshi Sugimoto, born in 1948 in Japan, lives and works in New York. He graduated from Saint Paul’s University, Tokyo and Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles. In 1980 Sugimoto photographed his first black and white series presenting horizons. Some 30 years later, he has photographed the same scenes from locations across the world. His subject the sky and sea, at the point where the horizon divides the light from the dark. These photographs have become Sugimotos signature.
