Hungary
Pannon is a fully owned Telenor subsidiary and the second largest mobile operator in Hungary. With over 3.4 million subscribers in Q1 2008, Pannon offers the widest mobile broadband coverage in Hungary and has proven to be a pioneer in mobile technology and environmental issues.
The headquarters of Pannon are located in Budapest.
Licences and network
Pannon currently holds two GSM licences (GSM 900 and GSM 1800) and a UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) licence. Recently Pannon has been expanding its 3G/HSDPA broadband network. In less than a year, it has increased the number of towns and villages covered by 3G Mobile Internet capabilities from 81 to 156. Pannon's network for mobile Internet use covers 99 per cent of Hungary's population.
Services and innovation
Pannon offers voice and non-voice services to subscribers on both a prepaid and a contract basis. Pannon also offers an ever-expanding range of voice and data services, integrated solutions and multimedia content under the brand names Pannon and djuice.
Pannon offers innovative technological and environmental solutions, such as:
- Mobile ECG, a device to monitor people under heavy physical strain, e.g. athletes and cardiac patients. The solution has been piloted by several hospitals and has received innovation awards. It is one of numerous services that utilises the data transmission capabilities of SIM cards.
- Discounts for customers who recycle their mobile phones.
- Geothermic heat pumps have been installed in the new main office building, one of several actions taken to reduce energy consumption.
