Denmark

Telenor’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sonofon is the second largest mobile operator in Denmark, with an estimated market share of 27%.

Sonofon offers voice and value added services to customers in both the consumer and business markets.

Licenses and network

Sonofon currently holds four licenses: a GSM 900 license, two GSM 1800 licenses and a UMTS license. The UMTS license was acquired in December 2005 and roll-out of the 3G network started immediately thereafter. On 27 September, 2006, the 3G network was launched in the four largest cities in Denmark, and is now rolled out across the country.

Segmented products and services

Sonofon aims to grow its market position as the second largest mobile operator by offering a range of segmented products and services. Focused customer relations management activities, including customer migration to optimal price plans, have brought churn rates to a historically low level, especially in the consumer segment. The youth segment is becoming increasingly important in Denmark, and young users are among the most active internet users, both in respect of purchasing subscriptions and in accessing customer services.

Retail

Sonofon’s primary distribution avenues are its own retail chain “Sonofon Partner”, which covers all of Denmark, complemented by external distributors. A strategic partnership has been initiated with a nationwide Radio/TV franchise chain, where Sonofon Shop (which is what, a shop within a store?) in Shop stores have been set up, supporting the distribution network. The distribution via the Internet is also starting to take off.
